A few days ago we were extremely excited to return to the infamous Landhotel Hirschen for another wonderful dining experience. The restaurant/hotel is located just outside Aarau – the capital of canton Aargau in Switzerland – in the beautiful village of Erlinsbach. Already at the arrival, we have been greeted by Albi von Felten the creator of this wonderful establishment himself.
Over the past few years, the Landhotel Hirschen has expanded into additional hotel and event space just across the street of the restaurant. In the main building where the restaurant and its cozy and wonderful wine cellar resides, it is very welcoming indeed and the interior offers a great mixture of modern and traditional architecture.
After tasting some regional white wine from the canton Aargau as well as the Landhotel Hirschen’s own beer (Speuzer Bier) in the wine cellar, we’ve moved to a comfortable and spacious table upstairs in the dining room ‘Von Felten Stube’ right in front of the back garden.
The menu was very versatile and to choose the right dish was definitely not an easy task. In the end we went for the 4 course menu. It was a great choice considering its delicious and very diverse tasting dishes. It offered a range of specially prepared starters including a ‘Gruss von der Küche’, fish and meat dishes served with fresh and regional ingredients as well as a delightful choice of desserts (including chocolate eggs on stones!).
From the wine menu, we chose two different red wines, both from the Italian part of Switzerland, the canton Ticino. We started with a lighter choice first and in the end, both wines were a joy to drink!
After almost four hours of tasting fantastic and delicious food and drinks in a comfortable and calm atmosphere, we decided to call it a night and left the restaurant and its lovely and friendly staff very satisfied.
Ultimately, our returning visit to the Landhotel Hirschen was a very pleasing experience and we highly recommend you to visit this wonderful establishment in the heart of canton Aargau!
